The client’s historic home has always looked out to a sweeping green plot. They desired a swimming pool with spa amenities, but didn’t want to disturb the green view. Act_Romegialli’s design added a pond while raising a garden above a hidden pool house. It’s a bunker of sorts, one that opens out to the pond while housing guest amenities and a peaceful place to swim. While the home itself is restored to its original, historic design, the hidden pool house is as contemporary as it gets. Since it is tucked away beneath the earth, it doesn’t clash with the design of the main home nearby. As guests approach the pool house from its lone pathway, they’re entering a different world. This cool, curvy and contemporary space is immediately calming, with all the relaxation amenities a guest could desire. It’s a place to bathe, relax and take in the view of the parkland from within its windows. These windows recede into the walls of the space itself, further connecting the interior to the garden plot around it. It’s an interesting contrast, but it’s designed not to feel stuffy or pretentious. The interior is peaceful, and the color is provided by the scenery beyond its walls.
